Private Schools should comply with rules

Private schools should comply with rules: DEO After summer vacation, the schools in the district were reopened on Thursday amid raids by transport officials on the school buses and warnings by District Education Officer against violation of guidelines.

In the district, there are about 4801 private and government schools. About 5,70,000 students from first standard to tenth are studying in these schools. An estimated 2,60,000 students are studying in private schools.

District education officer (DEO) S Vijay Kumar, speaking to press persons, has told the private school managements to strictly adhere to the guidelines of Right to Education Act "This time we are very serious to act against the erring schools," he said. Any school that violates the rules would be closed down. The private schools should not sell stationery, textbooks, uniform or any material on the school premises. Collection of capitation fee and conducting of admission tests were barred and school managements have to keep this in mind, Vijaya Kumar added.

He cautioned the school teachers working in both private and government schools not to subject students to physical punishment. Otherwise they have to face criminal cases, he warned. District Collector G Kishan has directed to set up special teams to study facilities available, collection of fees and staff details at the private schools.

About 15 teams comprising teachers and education officers were formed and they have already started their work. The DEO appealed to the parents to call him at his mobile number: 8706561195, if they face any problem at the private schools. "We should strive to impart qual¬ity education to the students whether they are studying at private or government schools," he said.
